The self-taught sculptor, Angel Giovanni Ruiz was born in New York in 1965, returning with his family to Puerto Rico in the early seventies. His artisan parents instilled in him a love for the art of working with precious metals. From 1985 to 1991 he practiced this craft, as well as artisanal design, in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In the early nineties, he returned to the United States to specialize in advanced technologies and theories in the welding of various metals at the prestigious Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California, where he earned a certificate of accreditation from the American Welding Society. His work has received awards in Puerto Rico, Chicago, New York, and Europe. He is one of the most talented and skilled representatives of contemporary Puerto Rican sculpture.
