In 2007 Plaza Las Américas opened the Ricardo Alegría Cultural Hall in keeping with its long tradition of supporting local art and artisans. Located on the third level of Plaza, accessible by escalators from the Grand Court, the Ricardo Alegría Cultural Hall currently houses over twenty Puerto Rican artisans displaying and selling original works including "santos", paintings, sculptures, mosaics, and other local artisans work.
Named in honor of Ricardo Alegría, the famous Puerto Rican scholar and cultural anthropologist and archeologist, the Ricardo Alegría Cultural Hall is a wonderful place to browse and become aware of the many talented Puerto Rican artisans and the diversity of our cultural heritage. The atmosphere is charged with creativity and often you will find artisans at work on their latest creations.
